After reading clean sweep I was really in the mood to read some more good urban fantasy – yes that happens quite a lot for me. I found Blood Price among the books recommended to me on goodreads.com and it was available in audiobook form, so I grabbed it. It has been a long time since I read something set in the early 90s, but it was a lot of fun. To me it almost feel like time traveling. No mobile phones, no internet – if you wanted to look something up, you better find a paper copy. There is a tiny bit of hacking in this book (to the level of getting an unlisted phone number) but computers play a very small role. It made it more fun to me.
This is one of the books I have been looking forward to the release of. And I was lucky enough that the audiobook came out at the same time as the paper book (yeah) so I could continue to listen the series rather than reading it.
I think this is one of the best urban fantasy series out there! Rachel Morgan the protagonist is such a wonderful character. She is so well-rounded. She got tons of flaws and makes mistakes but that just makes her human. She is not one of the flat “strong female characters” that sadly takes up too much of the genre.
Title: Fury of the Demon
Author: Diana Rowland
Series: Kara Gillian, book 6
Published: 2014 by DAW
Read: January 18 to 29, 2014
Genre: Urban fantasy
Trigger warning: Mention of rape and graphic torture
I have enjoyed the series so far. I have enjoyed enough to read the first five books over the course of two months and seeking out a second series by Diana Rowland. However this book disappointed me.
