This is a fantasy story set in a world with elves, goblins and humans. However the religion seems to be catholicism, or as close to it as you can get without naming it. This is important because the story is very much about religion. It takes place in a monastery where an elf spend many years.

I read this as part of my Hugo Award reading, it was part of the Hugo voting package. I do not think I would have ever picked it up otherwise. Gritty dystopian fiction, not my cup of tea.
I will say up front, I did not like it – at all! I really tried to give it a chance, but it creeped me out – and not in a good way.

Oh this story is just wonderful! It is really hard to write about it without spoiling it because it is so short (flash fiction). But I will try to say a little bit about why I loved it.
