Spider muffins

For years by sister and I has hosted Halloween parties for a group of friends. I love to cook for people so I tend to bake party snacks. Among those are these scary spider muffins. They only take half an hour to make and they are yummy. I like the mix of soft and crunshy that the apples and nut bits provide.

These are based on a Swedish recipe called “St Lucia Muffins” from the page dagensmuffin.se. I can no longer find the recipe online so I decided to share it.

Spider muffins

Muffins with raisins, nuts and apples made to look like spiders by adding licorice strings as legs.

  • Prep Time: 10m
  • Cook Time: 20m
  • Total Time: 30m

  • 400 milliliters wheat flour
  • 200 milliliters sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 25 grams melted butter
  • 50 milliliters milk
  • 1 eggs (you might need one more)
  • 150 milliliters raisins
  • apple
  • 50 milliliters hazelnuts (or walnuts)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • licorice strings for legs

  1. Preheat the oven to 225 C
  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
  3. Add the melted butter.
  4. Whip together milk and eggs.
  5. Stir in the flour, eggs and raisins. Grade the apples, chop the nuts and add the sugar and cinnamon. Mix it all into the mix.
  6. Pour the mix into the muffin forms (it\'s always a good idea to butter them). I find that using silicon forms works much better than paper.
  7. Bake the muffins for about 20 minutes at 220-225 C
  8. Let them cool and stick in the cool legs!
